A dental bridge is a very affordable and stable dental restoration option if you are missing a tooth and are not a candidate for a dental implant. Los Gatos dentist Dr. HagShenas will examine your teeth and gums to determine if a dental bridge is the best way to go to restore your missing tooth.
The false tooth associated with the dental bridge is used to fill the space created by your missing tooth. This space between your teeth can be damaging to your dental health, as it can cause your teeth to shift which will change your bite, resulting in pain and discomfort. A dental bridge will help to alleviate this shifting of your teeth by using the two surrounding teeth as anchors to hold a false tooth in the place. Porcelain dental crowns are placed over the teeth on either side of the space, and the false tooth is fused between them.
There are Three Types of Dental Bridges:
1. A Traditional Fixed Bridge is the most common type in which porcelain crowns are placed over the teeth on either side of the space and used as anchors to hold the false tooth in place. The false tooth is generally made of porcelain fused to metal or a ceramic composite material.
2. A Cantilever Bridge is used when there are teeth only on one side of the space. These are typically used on your front teeth or in the areas of your mouth where there is a lighter chewing load.
3. A Resin-bonded bridge is one where metal bands are bonded to the teeth of either side of the space, which are used to hold the false tooth in place. This type is also used on the front teeth or in the areas of your mouth where there is a lighter chewing load.
There is a minimum of two visits to Dr. HagShenas for placing a dental bridge. The first involves preparation and fitting with a temporary bridge, and the second visit is when the temporary is removed and you are fitted with the the permanent bridge.
